Singapore – To usher in the New Year, the country will hold its annual celebration called Marina Bay Singapore Countdown inclusive of an hour-long firework display and so much more.

In addition to fireworks, this gala will be a multi-sensory musical featuring lights, 3D surround sound and performances by Taiko drummers, dancers and fire entertainers.

The event, which is sponsored by Mediacorp, will be held at The Promontory and admission is free of charge so everyone can enjoy this new year’s countdown.

CEO of the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA), Mr. Lim Eng Hwee, said: “The Marina Bay Singapore Countdown has been a signature countdown event that draws both locals and overseas visitors, as it offers a unique cityscape and vibrant atmosphere for everyone to enjoy the New Year’s Eve.”

The Marina Bay Singapore Countdown 2019 will also be featuring an advocacy called Build a Dream which aims to support the less fortunate in achieving their dreams and goals in life.

Students from local schools and beneficiaries from welfare organizations have submitted artwork that will be transformed into light projections to be portrayed on key landmarks around Marina Bay.

By doing so, URA hopes that the public will be inspired to lending a hand and extending support in helping the less privileged in the country.

Other activities

Aside from the hour-long fireworks display, there will be a Food Truck Fest at the Marina Bay Sands Event Plaza that will offer modern local delights.

Bayfront Even Space will be holding the Prudential Marina Bay Carnival to further enhance the fun activities of the countdown celebration.

There will be numerous outdoor performances by local artists at the Esplanade Outdoor Theatre

Civic District will be closed to all vehicles in order to make way for activities like movie screenings, live performances, bazaars, salsa dancing and so much more.

The fireworks display will be set against the beautiful Singapore city skyline during the countdown.

Meanwhile, locals are expressing their opinions regarding the said event, with some showing excitement and some being quite opposed to the whole thing.

“An hour-long fireworks display is overly excessive. Taxpayers can literarily watch their money go up in smoke.” – Wei Foo, Facebook user

“If they intend to do that they should make announcement much earlier so as to help tourists in their planning. How much more tourist dollar we could have earned by just share this information a lot earlier.” – Paul Tan, Facebook user
