A netizen expressed shock on social media after discovering that a fish he had bought from a Giant Supermarket outlet in Tampines was infested with several worms. The netizen, Mich Lum, shared online that he only discovered the worms when he brought it home:

“This was bought at Tampines Giant. While choosing the Threadfin, majority of the stocks had the same puncture marks throughout their belly.

“I did not have any idea it is a sign of parasite activity till I bought it home to fillet. Once the fish was being filleted, worms were found all around the fish!”

This is not the first time a Giant supermarket has been accused of selling products that are infested with worms.

Just earlier this year, in February, a video of a maggot-infested tray of eggs for sale at a Giant hypermarket in Tampines went viral online. The video, which shows a Giant brand tray of 30 eggs covered with wriggling maggots, prompted questions on whether the supermarket brand conducts rigorous quality control before putting items out for sale.

It remains unclear whether the Giant Tampines outlet Lum bought the fish from and the Giant Tampines outlet the maggot-infested eggs were from are the same outlet.
